He was put under arrest by an examining magistrate on Monday for punching and kicking a terrorism expert outside the Brussels studios of RTL-TVi where the victim had taken part in a television talk show.
"Unable to tolerate behaviour that goes against democratic values, La Louviere club has decided to fire Mr R. Belabed," read a club statement that described his acts as "unacceptable and unjustified."
Belabed, a 24-year-old Belgian of Moroccan descent, was waiting outside the studios when Claude Moniquet, a former journalist, walked out with a friend after the show, Controverse, which had hosted a discussion on terrorism.
"A man approached me. He was tense, nervous and said he wanted to talk to me," Moniquet, a writer on terrorism, told local tabloid La Derniere Heure.
"He said 'I don't like you. You are an enemy of Islam, a racist'."
Belabed hit him in the head and kicked him when he fell to the ground, Moniquet said, adding that he later had to be treated at a clinic for his injuries.

Football is un-Islamic
Ulema in Saudia Arabia have issued a fatwa (religious decree) declaring football an un-Islamic sport, and have urged the youth to quit it immediately, BBC radio reported on Saturday. According to the report, the clerics urged the youth to indulge in jihad and other constructive activities that could help the Muslim ummah, the radio reported. The ulema argued that football wastes a lot of time and the participants wear shorts, which they said was an un-Islamic dress, the radio reported. Following the decree, some players of the famous Taif Football Club have quit the game, the report added.

If that was indeed a Reuters headline (I doubt) then it shows some remarkably poor observation skills on part of the reporter.
I've read the report, and nowhere does it indicate what the player wanted to prove.
It just shows an angry man taking offense to what he perceived as racism, and reacting physically to it.
I believe that the ".. to prove Islam is peace"
appendage was added to more closely reflect your perverted agenda.
A more suitable headline would have been 'Football player sacked for physical assault'.
But you HAD TO somehow mention 'MUSLIM football player" and "ISLAM" in it? didn't you?

ReplyDeleteAs far as I know, the modern Football game was codified in the late 19th century...
The prophet restored the ages old monotheistic faith in the 7th century AD, when no football was around for him to declare heretic.
For the information of readers, the sport is interpreted as unislamic by some fundamentalist schools of though for reasons as ludicrous as 'waste of time'.
These interpretations are hardly universal.
And just so you know, the best football teams are in Asia are all Muslim AND from the Middle east.

ReplyDeleteIt was Rachid Belabed who angrily said to Claude Moniquet, "I don't like you. You are an enemy of Islam, a racist", before kicking the victim and punching him on the head. Belabed was of Moroccan descent, a part of the world infested by Islam. It was hardly likely that Belabed was a Jain attempting to tarnish the image of Muslims.
It was Belabed (not Divehi Resistance) who mentioned Islam, right before he committed his hate crime.
