What will Muslim Maldivians do to the Christians among them?

Eighteen years ago, Rashin Soodmand's father was hanged in Iran for converting to Christianity. Now her brother is in a Mashad jail, and expects to be executed under new religious laws brought in this summer. Alasdair Palmer reports.

A month ago, the Iranian parliament voted in favour of a draft bill, entitled "Islamic Penal Code", which would codify the death penalty for any male Iranian who leaves his Islamic faith. Women would get life imprisonment. The majority in favour of the new law was overwhelming: 196 votes for, with just seven against.
Imposing the death penalty for changing religion blatantly violates one of the most fundamental of all human rights. The right to freedom of religion is enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and in the European Convention of Human Rights. It is even enshrined as Article 23 of Iran's own constitution, which states that no one may be molested simply for his beliefs.
And yet few politicians or clerics in Iran see any contradiction between a law mandating the death penalty for changing religion and Iran's constitution. There has been no public protest in Iran against it.

    I agree with anonymous-1.

Ok so you are a christian or whatever religion you are following. And you are so scared to write in your own name.

Even if you dont advertise it, we do know there will be non-muslims here as well. And i guess maybe less than a 100 of you.

If u arent a muslim, fine. it doesn't affect us. But the way you are writing all this crap, showz just how you want to spread your religion and create confusion among Musllims here. hehe But u won't succeed. cos our faith is much stronger.

We aren't fools to follow satan's footsteps.

    No-thanks.

You seem to be scared yourself. Is "Anonymous" your name?

".....cos our faith is much stronger.."

If your faith is strong why do you have to force people to stay as Muslims? Those whose faith is strong don't need laws and punishments to retain their faith. You are afraid that if there is no law forcing people to be Muslims, people will leave your pedophile Mohamed's cult in huge numbers.

    It is simple as that.

Anonymous is not a name. But the owners of this blog hiding their identity shows they are timid.

And no one forces anyone to be a Muslim.

And Muslims know its the Haqq dheen.

If you are such great people, and as you are bashing a world religon, why do not let us know who you are.! And what your exact intention is!There are many non Muslims in Maldives and even on mvblogsphere. But they are not obsessed with Islam.I guess you are very intolerant of Islam a world religon, huh?

And its funny Maldivian government is allowing this blog to run, the government which claims they want to save Islam.they want to himaayai Islam.

Come on the famous minister on mvblogs.COndemn this blog, if you are sincere.

As a Maldivian I am ashamed that we are such an insecure people. I am also a Muslim but I don't feel insecure at the drop of a thaakihaa when some anti-Islamic blog pops up. What's wrong with you "Anonymouses"? Why are you so insecure? Is it because you have strong doubts about your own "eemaan" that you feel so outraged at anti-Islamic sentiments? People should be allowed to express their views, even anti-Islamic views, because different people have different views and everyone is entitled to express their opinion. Nobody can force other people to believe that Islam is the "haqqu dheen" or not. Eki meehunnah visneynee eki gothah. Why can't we respect that? Come on, for instance, if Maldives had converted to "100 percent Christianity" 800 years ago, and some among us wanted to embrace Islam today, then what about our rights? Think about that. You guys are no better than Abu Jahulu. Just following your "kaabafainge dheen" without giving it a thought. That's why you are so insecure. That's why you shake so much when anti-Islamic sentiments are expressed. In fact, you are just faking your belief in Islam. I bet you have strong doubts deeply hidden in your heart and that's why you guys are so sensitive. Be more like the webmaster of this blog: if you have doubts about Islam, leave it. Just learn to respect and be tolerant of alternative views. You kind of people are the real problem of Maldives, fake hypocrites like you. The good believing Muslims of this country is ashamed of people like you "Anonymouses." Might I also add that the only reason why this blog's owner is FORCED to remain anonymous is because it is because of stupid people like you who are making it illegal for people to express alternative views.

I understand your claim for religious freedom. But your writings denounce Islam to spread falsehood among Maldivians.

Just for the sake of argument... lets say you were given options as the Iraqi Christians:

  14. Dear offended Muslims,
If you are offended, complain about the Human Rights violations that that are being done in the name of your Allah and Mohammed, here in Maldives and around the world.

Are you feeling uneasy about the Koranic verses and Hadiths on this blog. I cannot help you. They are from your books. Only you can help yourself.
Postings about Human Rights violations is not abuse of any religion.

Though rare exceptions certainly exist, the Islamic community is characterized by arrogance and a general indifference to the lives and welfare of unbelievers. Anyone who doubts this should contrast the genuine outrage over periodic yet petty slights against Muslims (such as the recent Muhammad cartoons) to the reaction - or lack thereof - that these same people have when unspeakable acts of violence are committed in the name of Allah and Islam.

Face it Maldivian Muslims! There will eventually be no option but to face the force of world opinion and let us non-Muslims practice our religions openly in our homeland. This includes inviting others to become non-Muslim. This is a basic right you people enjoy when you travel to Sri Lanka, Singapore, India, Thailand and further afield beyond these countries of the Civilised World. Just think about it! All of your neighbours, with the exception of Pakistan and probably Bangladesh are civilised. Only you are uncivilised, wanting to impose a barbaric ideology on unwilling people. If you want to remain Muslim that is your right. I will respect that most vehemently.

All I am asking is to respect my right. You will find your "world religion" will only gain respectability that way. When that happens you won't have to force, rape and murder people, like your Mohamed did, in order to gain respect for your religion.
