Dancers flogged by Islamists

What will the Minister of Islamic affairs who says that music is haraam do with dancers?

"The team was flogged in Balad township, 30km north of the capital Mogadishu, where they were arrested overnight while performing a folklore dance.

"They were found dancing to traditional songs outside Balad last night (Friday) and were flogged this morning (Satureday).

...

Islamist official, Sheikh Ibrahim Hassan, told AFP that group violated the Islamic Sharia law that bars men and women from mingling and dancing together.

"So they were punished for their evil actions that violated Sharia law," Hassan said.

Last month, Somali men stoned to death a 13-year-old girl after an Islamic court in the southern port of Kismayo found her guilty of adultery, but it later emerged that she was raped."

I have been reading this blog for a long time. I am a student in CHSE, until now a Muslim girl wearing hijab. I will continue to wear hijab for otherwise they will find out who I am. I am on holiday in Lanka and I have visited a church. Maldivian Christians here have shown me the good way. I will be baptized next Sunday and will chnage name to Elizabeth.

By the way I have tried pork curry. It is nice:)

Its sad to see Muslims leaving their religion. Its sadder to see Islam become the very tool that introduced human rights to the world become the retrograde force against the very liberties that humans are enjoying.

I guess the mystery lies very much in how Islam is interpreted. Purpose based Islam as opposed to literal word-to-word interpretation of Islam. The latter is very dangerous as it often out of the social context.

My point here is that there is no denying that Islam did introduce human rights to the world, in a time when burying children alive was an accepted custom. The world was centuries behind Islam in this regard some 1400 years ago.

Also, another noteworthy point is that millions of muslims around the world have condemned acts of atrocity by people claiming to be "muslims."

The whole muslim community should not be judged upon acts of a few misguided souls claiming to do gods work by killing innocents.

Anonymous, Mohamed's Koran pales into notoriety compared with Cyrus the Great's Cylinder written in 539 BC, 1170 years before Mohamed completed writing his book of rhymes. The cylinder is accepted as the earliest declaration of human rights applicable over the most powerful empire of the time; that of Persia. What King Cyrus decreed compares remarkably well with the present day Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The claim that Islam championed the cause of women and the girl child is a myth. Under Islam women are still regarded as second class citizens; their worth being usually half of that of men. Just consider Khadija, Mohamed's old wife. She was a businesswoman in her own right and employed Mohamed for years before he invented his cult. Do you think a society that ill-treated its women would allow that?

Roman law was fairer than the Sharia and that was codified centuries before Islam and survives to this day. Just next door to us in Sri Lanka, even now, Roman Dutch law is applied in the courts.

Millions of Muslims do not condemn the source of the Islamic outrages. The Muslims who commit atrocities are simply following the Sunnah and the Koran. Read these texts for yourself and find out that it is Islam that is the problem.

Elizabeth is intelligent. That is why she has left Islam. Congratulations Elizabeth and good luck for your baptism.
