We have yet to hear any condemnation by Muslim leaders.

The United Nations said Tuesday that a Somali stoned to death by Islamist militants after she had been accused of adultery was a 13-year-old girl who had been raped while visiting her grandmother.

In the first such public killing by the militants in about two years, she was placed in a hole and stoned to death on Oct. 28 in a rebel-held port city, Kismayu, in front of a crowd, after local leaders said she was guilty under Shariah, the legal code of Islam based on the Koran.

Witnesses said at the time that the victim had been a 23-year-old woman.

“Reports indicate that she had been raped by three men while traveling on foot to visit her grandmother in the war-torn capital, Mogadishu,” Unicef, the United Nations children’s agency, said in a statement.

“Following the assault, she sought protection from the authorities, who then accused her of adultery and sentenced her to death,” Unicef added. “A child was victimized twice — first by the perpetrators of the rape and then by those responsible for administering justice.”

Unicef said the episode highlighted the vulnerability of girls and women in Somalia, which has suffered under cycles of civil conflict for the past 17 years. In the latest cycle, Islamist rebels are fighting the government and their Ethiopian military backers.

Rebel spokesmen could not be reached immediately to respond to Unicef’s accusation.

The human rights group Amnesty International has identified the girl as Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow and said she was killed by 50 men who stoned her in a stadium in Kismayu in front of about 1,000 spectators.

Her father and other sources were quoted by Amnesty International as saying that she had been raped by three men.

When the family tried to report the rape to the Shabab militia that controls Kismayu, the girl was accused of adultery and was detained. None of the men she accused of rape have been arrested.

Simon and Hilath. Allah, the supreme god of the Kaaba has 99 attributes including al-Mutakabbir (arrogant) and al-Jabbar (heinous) [there are other translations too of these terms]. None of Allah's attributes include al-Hubb (Love). Some Islamic propagandists such as the Late Ahmed Deedat even bragged about this, saying that al-Hubb is a soft attribute of the Judeo-Christian God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

This is significant in understanding why, for example, the Mediaeval Roman Catholic Church was able to abandon the Holy Inquisition, while Islam is unable to shake off the barbaric heritage of Mohamed.

Anonymous, there is some debate (ikhtilaf) as to whether stoning to death for adultery (rajam) is sanctioned by Allah of the Kaaba. According to Umar bin al-Khattab the Koran contained the verse on rajam, but the verse did not survive Uthman bin al-Affan's edition and revision of the Koran. According to a non-Sahih Hadith, the verse was in a parchment of a section of the Koran that was eaten by Aysha bint Abu Bakr's pet goat and so did not make it to Usman's version of the Koran that Sunni Muslims now have.

Dhivehi Christian: Don't ever let us know who you are.

We don't give a damn if you are a christian or an atheist. But you have repeatedly wrote bad about Islam, Allah our creator and our prophet Muhammadh.

I swear by God that the day I know who you are would be the end of this.

    anonymous,
Dhivehi Christian is actually teaching you the truth about your own Islam!
The bad about Islam, Allah your creator and your prophet Muhammadh is in the Koran and hadith. It is also in the words and actions of Muslims like you.
When you can differentiate between good and bad, you will understand that Islam is vile, vulgar, dangerous and inhuman. As long as you believe things without asking questions, people can brainwash you.
But You do not ask questions because - "O ye who believe! Ask not questions about things which if made plain to you, may cause you trouble... Some people before you did ask such questions, and on that account lost their faith." (Quran. 5:101-102)

  8. I admit I haven't done much research into God's attributes as found in Islam, so I am not sure whether Dhivehi Christian's claims that al-Hubb (Love) is not an attribute of Allah is true.
My general understanding was that al-Hubb was a quality of Allah.
Anyway, since Christians make such a big thing of ascribing Love to Jesus (or the Trinity which by the way I don't think any sane person can understand; no offence OK?), I am aware that Love is a big thing in Christianity. Well, frankly I am happy about it because such great emphasis have helped to promote understanding and tolerance in the West and raised it from the Dark Ages.
But I still do wonder why the Inquisition (killing of 'heretics' by the Church) took place if Christianity is so concerned with love, understanding and tolerance. I mean, aren't they also guilty of extremism and fundamentalism? How many abortion clinics have been bombed in America? How many gays and lesbians have been cold-bloodedly murdered in America?
Anyways, I appreciate the fact that a lot of good have resulted because the Christian West places so much emphasis on Love. The evidence? Well, look at all the tsunami aid. It came from the West mainly. Our Arab and Muslim "brothers" and "sisters" of the Ummah only gave meagre help. How much aid did oil-rich countries like Saudi Arabia give to tsunami-hit countries? Basically, nothing. I wonder why the Maldives' government bothers at all to keep diplomatic relations with such barbaric and inhumane states as Saudi Arabia.
So I guess Love is a winning concept. But I don't think any one religion can lay claim to Love; I mean I don't think Christianity can claim Love as its own because most of the moderate Muslim Maldivian friends I know are quite loving of one another and quite tolerant, too. You can find many of them here on Maldivian Blogosphere. Peace.

I have just re-checked the 99 attributes of Allah in Arabic and al-Hubb or any of its synonyms are not among them.

The Inquisition was conceived by Church leaders of the time. They were not acting on the example set by Jesus Christ. On the other hand Islamic barbarism has its foundations in the personal example set by Mohamed himself. Mohamed personally ordered killing and torture. He personally participated in slavery and the rape of non-combatant female prisoners of war. You only have to listen to the Seerah you hear on VOM during Ramadan to see that he committed these acts of barbarism.

If your moderate Muslim friends find these acts unacceptable then surely they must find Mohamed a most deplorable human specimen.

  10. Since history is written by human beings, we can't really establish beyond doubt what really happened -- whether the accusations you have made against Mohamed are true, AND whether the "example" you claim to have set by Jesus is also true. That's why it's better not to bother. "Organised" religion is man-made as any rational person should now be able to deduce by himself/herself. :-)
