A Washington, D.C. based Muslim group, hosted its 10th Anniversary event earlier this week. It was moderated by the self-proclaimed European spokesman for the Muslim Brotherhood. Both Hillary Clinton and Congressman Keith Ellison were expected to speak at the event.
Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., joins scholars and policy experts next week near the nation’s capital to discuss the future of U.S.-Muslim relations.
The nonprofit Center for the Study of Islam and Democracy is celebrating its 10th anniversary with an academic conference Tuesday titled, “How to Improve U.S.-Muslim Relations: Challenges and Promises Ahead.”
The conference in Arlington, Va., among other things, will take up the Obama administration policies and what role Islam will play in developing democracy in the Muslim world.
During the gathering, Maldives Foreign Minister Ahmed Shaheed will receive the “Muslim Democrat of the Year” award for his work in the past 15 years to strengthen and promote democracy and human rights in the Maldives.
While it is clear why Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to Congress, would speak at the event – he speaks at every major Islamic event in the U.S. and some outside the U.S., and even went to the College of Sharia in the Middle East rather than celebrate Presidents Day Weekend in the United States – it’s not clear why Secretary of State Hillary Clinton might speak at an event hosted by a Muslim Brotherhood member. More bizarrely, why would an American Muslim group award Democrat of the Year status on a foreign minister whose country denies citizenship to non-Muslims and is quite proud of that fact? It just doesn’t sound very democratic or award worthy, does it?

For now I’m very happy to be in a 100 per cent Muslim country having achieved homegrown democracy. It’s not something that was imposed on us. The movement for democracy grew in the country…we’re still trying to complete the revolution here.

Article 9, Section D states that “a non-Muslim may not become a citizen of the Maldives.”

Not only is Maldives simply bigoted. It also spews hatred on anything that is holy to non-Muslims.

Maldives is emphatically NOT a democracy, home-grown or otherwise. It is a hate-filled chauvinistic Islamic rogue state that needs to be excluded totally from the community of civilsed nations.

ReplyDeleteProbably one of the most idiotic things I have read in a while. Whether or not the Maldives allows other religions has nothing to do with it being a democracy. A democracy is simply a system in which the people are sovereign. Whatever the people decide to do is beside the issue.

In an Islamic state the people are not sovereign and never will be. Mohamed's imaginary Allah and therefore, from his grave and the depths of hell, Mohamed is sovereign.

The Maldives isnt an Islamic state so the issue does not apply here. I agree that in an Islamic State Allah will be sovereign and so there will be no democracy.
ReplyDeleteLook at articles 4 and 5 of the Maldivian constitution which shows clearly the people are Sovereign. The people can choose to completely remove Islam if they desire.
I personally reject democracy so don't think I am trying to argue for the democracy in the Maldives.
You on the other hand only seem to believe it is a democracy if the people choose what you want. Again the article is weak and has no foundation. The blog clearly lets yourselves down with this extreme exaggeration akin to McCartyism.
Tell me, in your opinion is there an Islamic state in the world? Or has there been one since the days of Islam's paedophile founder? Did Mohamed run an Islamic state?
